US court orders Trump administration to restore Voice of America
A federal court in Washington has ruled that the administration of US President Donald Trump must restore Voice of America and several affiliated broadcasters, according to a court ruling.
The court ordered the reinstatement of all Voice of America employees who were laid off or furloughed in March and the restoration of funding for the broadcaster from the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM).
In addition to Voice of America, the ruling also applies to Radio Free Asia and the Middle East Broadcasting Network (MBN). At the same time, the court refused to take the same action against Radio Liberty and the Open Technology Fund (OTF), "given their current status."
The court also ordered the US government to report monthly on the implementation of this ruling.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 15, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order ordering him to cut funding for seven government agencies as part of the government's "efforts to cut costs."
The cuts included the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which is home to Radio Liberty and Voice of America.
At the end of March, a US court temporarily banned the Trump administration from closing Radio Liberty.
