Energy Ministry responds to Bulgaria's statement on refusal to sell nuclear reactors to Ukraine

The Ministry of Energy responded to Bulgaria's statement on refusal to sell nuclear reactors to Ukraine.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy reported this to Suspilne in a comment, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that the Ministry of Energy informed Suspilne that they had not received the official position of the Bulgarian government on this issue, therefore "any comments are premature".

"Ukraine is interested in purchasing equipment for the completion of two power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP in accordance with the decision of the Verkhovna Rada. The completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP is an important project for Ukraine's energy security. We are convinced that the agreement on the purchase of equipment is mutually beneficial for both countries," the department emphasized.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 15, Vice Prime Minister and Chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Atanas Zafirov said that negotiations had been held with partners in the Joint Management Council, as well as with GERB leader Boyko Borissov, regarding the fate of two reactors for the Belene NPP.

Zafirov stressed that an agreement had been reached not to sell them to Ukraine.
