Rubio denies information about US plans to restore air traffic with russia

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that he knew nothing about alleged plans to restore air traffic with the aggressor country of russia.

Rubio said this at a press conference held after a meeting with ministers from NATO countries.

The day before, russian dictator vladimir putin's negotiator Kirill Dmitriev said that the issue of restoring air traffic was allegedly discussed at his recent meeting with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.

Journalists asked Rubio to comment on this information.

"I have not heard anything about the restoration of direct flights between russia and the United States," the Secretary of State said.

He added that he did not understand how air traffic could be restored under the sanctions imposed on russia.

The United States and European Union countries severed air traffic with russia after it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They closed the airspace to russian airliners.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 4, Rubio said that russia was violating the terms of the ceasefire it had agreed to some time ago. According to him, the US Congress has already begun work on new sanctions against russia if it does not demonstrate readiness for peace.

As a reminder, on April 2, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Brusylo said that Kyiv had handed over to the US evidence of Moscow's violation of the moratorium on strikes on energy facilities.

And on March 19, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the russian army continued to strike Ukrainian energy facilities, despite putin's "order" to stop the shelling.
