G7 countries threaten russia with sanctions if ceasefire agreement is not reached, - Reuters

Today, March 14, the G7 countries called on russia to agree to a ceasefire on equal terms and fully observe it, threatening further sanctions.

Reuters reported this with reference to the final draft statement.

Thus, the G7 countries stressed the need for reliable "security arrangements" to ensure a ceasefire between Ukraine and russia, warning moscow that it must follow Kyiv in reaching a ceasefire agreement or face further sanctions.

"The G7 members called on Russia to reciprocate by agreeing to a ceasefire on equal terms and fully observe it," the final draft statement of the G7 countries, which was obtained by the agency, says.

According to G7 officials, the draft, approved by senior diplomats, still needs the green light from ministers.

“They stressed that any ceasefire must be respected, and stressed the need for reliable and credible security measures to ensure that Ukraine can deter and defend itself against any renewed acts of aggression,” they said.

The G7 includes the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump said that he had “good and productive” discussions with russian dictator vladimir putin yesterday. According to him, there is a “very good chance” of ending russia’s war against Ukraine.
