Starmer believes russia will violate ceasefire if it leaves Ukraine without security guarantees
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer believes that the aggressor country russia will violate a possible ceasefire and launch a new attack on Ukraine if the country is not provided with security guarantees.
Starmer made the corresponding statement during the News Agents podcast, his words are quoted by the British publication The Guardian.
He said that he was not surprised that russia rejected the proposal to introduce a 30-day ceasefire on the front line, proposed by Ukraine and the United States.
According to him, russia takes such a position and has made it quite clear. In moscow, Starmer added, this has been repeatedly stated.
The British Prime Minister also noted the opposition of the russian leadership to proposals to provide Ukraine with security guarantees.
"That tells you something, if you don’t intend to breach the deal, you wouldn’t have too many problems with guarantees for the deal. And we know that in the past, he’s (russian dictator vladimir putin — ed.) breached the deal," Starmer said.
He believes that russia's reaction shows that if Ukraine is not protected by security guarantees, then at some point putin will break the deal and attack again.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, talks between Ukraine and the United States took place in Saudi Arabia on March 11. The Ukrainian side has expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal to introduce a 30-day ceasefire.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a possible temporary ceasefire involves a ceasefire along the entire front line, not just at sea and in the sky.
However, today, an aide to the russian dictator, Yuri Ushakov, said that russia does not want a temporary ceasefire. It is allegedly interested in "long-term peace."
