Chornobyl NPP after russian strike: work continues to eliminate smoldering
The consequences of the attack by russian drones that occurred on February 14 continue at the Chornobyl NPP.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU).
"The SESU rescuers continue work to partially open the shelter structures and eliminate smoldering," the report says.
Drones with thermal imagers are being used to monitor the situation and identify possible new sources of fire.
It is noted that the radiation background in the territory of the Chornobyl NPP remains within normal limits, there is no threat to the population. Experts assure that the situation is under control.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the night of February 14, a russian strike drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter that covers the destroyed power unit No. 4 at the Chornobyl NPP.
The strike on the New Safe Confinement (NSC) damaged the integrity of the NSC's outer shell and equipment in the crane maintenance garage.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 1.5 billion to maintain the safe condition of the shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
