Lukashenko says russia will provide Belarus with Oreshnik missiles
The self-proclaimed President of Belarus Aleksander Lukashenko has said that russian medium-range ballistic missiles Oreshnik will allegedly be deployed on Belarusian territory in the coming days.
Lukashenko made the relevant statement on January 26, as quoted by the BELTA news agency.
Lukashenko said that after receiving the missile complex from the aggressor country of russia, he "dreams" of deploying it near the eastern border of Belarus.
"There, closer to Smolensk (a russian city near the border with Belarus - ed.). I dream so. And we'll see there. We need a certain distance <...> Therefore, I am considering somewhere near you, especially since these are joint weapons. But I am not saying that near Smolensk. I am just thinking so now," Lukashenko told russian journalists.
The self-proclaimed president of Belarus added that he had not discussed the exact timing of the delivery of the Oreshnik missiles with russian dictator vladimir putin. This, as he put it, "does not burn."
At the same time, he said that if "something very extraordinary happens," Belarus will "take" the missiles it has today from russia.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in late 2023, it became known that russia had provided Belarus with its first nuclear warheads.
According to the russians, they had transferred Iskander missile systems and aircraft capable of delivering nuclear weapons to Belarus.
As we will recall, the day before, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) published a 108-page report stating that russia would annex Belarus in the next decade.
