Georgian Prime Minister threatens President with prison

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is threatening to imprison President Salome Zourabichvili if she does not leave her post when her term ends. This is expected to happen on December 29.

This is reported by Sova publication.

"We'll see where she (Zourabichvili - ed.) will continue to live - behind bars or at large. I think she has enough reason not to violate the norms of the Criminal Code," the Prime Minister said.

Kobakhidze claims that Zourabichvili allegedly wanted to organize new parliamentary elections, but "someone smart advised her not to do this."

Recall that in December, Georgia held elections in which Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former football player who was the only candidate, won. The opposition does not recognize these results.

The current President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, has said that she will not resign, because the parliament, which she calls illegitimate, will not be able to elect her successor.

As a reminder, large-scale protests began in Georgia on November 28. The reason was the statement of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. He announced that the authorities had decided not to include the issue of negotiations on accession to the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028.

In Tbilisi, the rallies were suppressed with the help of water cannons, rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray. Over the week, the authorities detained more than 300 people. Most of them were beaten by security forces.

As a result, Zelenskyy implemented the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against the Georgian authorities.
