Pentagon reports where AFU will use US-provided anti-personnel mines
The Armed Forces of Ukraine will use the American anti-personnel mines that Washington decided to provide to Kyiv as part of defense assistance only on Ukrainian territory.
Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh announced this at a briefing.
She noted that "the Ukrainians have given us their assurances that they are going to only use them in Ukraine."
"We are providing a — different variants of the type of mines. I'm just not going to get into more details than that," Singh said.
The Deputy Spokesperson for the Pentagon added that it is important to note that the reason why the States is providing anti-personnel mines to Ukraine is that "the battlefield has changed and the fight has evolved over time, so have we" in the context of the ongoing war of the russian federation against Ukraine, and Washington is reacting to this in terms of providing assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"Russia has changed their tactics. So, they're not leading with their mechanized forces," Singh said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, today, November 20, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that the United States will transfer anti-personnel mines to Ukraine for the first time.
Recall that on November 17, the American newspaper The New York Times wrote that the current U.S. President Biden allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles to strike russian territory.
And earlier this month, Biden allowed U.S. defense contractors to work in Ukraine. This involves maintenance and repair of Western equipment used by the Ukrainian army.
