In Moldova, they said whether Ukraine can send its troops to Transnistria
Ukraine cannot decide on its own to send its troops to the unrecognized Transnistria in Moldova, but at the same time, it would be desirable for Moldova to resolve the issue of the presence of russian troops in the region together with Ukraine.
The former Minister of Defense of Moldova, Anatol Șalaru, said this on the air of Kyiv24.
Șalaru answered whether Ukraine can send troops to Transnistria without Moldova's permission.
"Many people say and ask me whether Ukraine can do this without Moldova's permission. Ukraine wants to join the European Union, and Ukraine abides by all international agreements. Ukraine will practically not attack the Republic of Moldova," the former Defense Minister noted.
"It would be desirable, in my opinion, if Moldova, together with Ukraine, resolved the issue of the presence of russian troops in Transnistria. But the Republic of Moldova considers the residents of Transnistria as citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and cannot initiate any military actions against its citizens," Șalaru explained.
He added that according to Moldovan laws, the country's army has no right to fight with Transnistria, "because the army cannot fight against its own people."
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, the so-called deputies of the unrecognized Transnistria appealed to the aggressor country of russia for protection in the conditions of "increasing pressure on Moldova."
On February 22, a number of Moldovan mass media reported that on February 28, the leadership of unrecognized Transnistria could allegedly ask to join russia.
At the same time, on February 25, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that the unrecognized republic would not apply to join the russian federation.
