EU will provide Ukrzaliznytsia with EUR 43 million for the construction of standard-gauge railway

The European Union will allocate EUR 43 million to the Ukrzaliznytsia joint-stock company for the construction of the standard-gauge railway.

This follows from a statement by the company, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Within the framework of the program of the European Union, Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the project of integration of the railway system of Ukraine into the transport system of the EU has been agreed. The project application was approved by the coordination committee of the program on July 16, 2024. This project involves the improvement of the railway network and the development of the 1б435-mm track to ensure technological compatibility and increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure. Its total budget is EUR 85.91 million, CEF will provide Ukrzaliznytsia with EUR 42.95 million," the message says.

According to the notification, within the framework of the specified application, it is planned to implement:

Also provided are the costs of carrying out an examination regarding compliance with the TSI requirements of the abovementioned projects, as well as the sections Kovel – Yahodyn – State Border and Medyka/Mostyska II - Lviv (Sknyliv).

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April, Ukrzaliznytsia started construction of the standard-gauge railway from Uzhhorod to the border with the European Union.
