NSDC Center for Countering Disinformation explains why russia is threatening by blowing up dams in Kyiv and Kaniv

The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council explains that by claiming that Ukraine is preparing to destroy the dams of the Kyiv HPP and the Kaniv Reservoir in order to blame the aggressor country russia, the kremlin is trying to cause panic among Ukrainians, expecting that they will demand to make concessions to the russian federation.

The Center for Combating Disinformation reported this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, said that Ukraine is allegedly preparing to destroy the dams of the Kyiv HEPP and the Kaniv Reservoir in order to blame it on the russian federation. With these statements, the Kremlin is trying to cause panic among Ukrainians. At the same time, narratives about the need for "peace at any price" are thrown into Ukrainian society, i.e. de facto capitulation. The enemy expects that Ukrainians, under the influence of fear, will demand concessions from Russia," the Center explains.

At the same time, he notes that despite the fact that Zakharova's statement looks like an attempt to provide russia with an alibi before the terrorist attack, the russian federation does not have the means and capabilities to destroy the dams near Kyiv and Kaniv.

"It is impossible to destroy these objects with missile strikes, and the option of detonation through sabotage is excluded, since the dams are under increased protection," the NSDC emphasizes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 6, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on the anniversary of the russians blowing up the dam and building of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, noted that it was a deliberate and calculated crime of the aggressor country.

On the night of June 6, 2023, russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka HEPP dam, which resulted in human casualties, lost homes, and serious environmental consequences.
