Westinghouse Able To Cover Ukraine's Needs In Nuclear Fuel In 12 Months

Westinghouse Electric (the United States) says it will take the company 12 months to cover Ukraine's needs in nuclear fuel.

Aziz Dag, Westinghouse vice president and managing director, said this in an interview with Ukrainian News Agency.

"In 12 months Westinghouse will be able to prepare for supplies of nuclear fuel to all nuclear power units," he said.

If Westinghouse supplies nuclear fuel to more than seven reactors in Ukraine, it will take the company a shorter time to prepare for supplies of nuclear fuel to all nuclear power units.

He specified that the new contract contains provisions on additional supplies of nuclear fuel on Ukraine's demand.

At present, the nuclear fuel of Westinghouse is supplied to six reactors in Ukraine, including two reactors of the Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant (the town of Yuzhnoukrainsk; Mykolaiv region) and four reactors of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (Enerhodar, Zaporizhia region).

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, late in January 2018, the Kyiv-based Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company agreed with Westinghouse Electric (the United States) on supplies of nuclear fuel until 2025.

The new contact envisions supply of nuclear fuel to seven of 15 Ukrainian nuclear power units in 2021-2025.
