Ukraine receives additional USD 690 million from IMF

Ukraine yesterday received a second tranche of approximately USD 690 million from the International Monetary Fund under the new four-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced this on his Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

"The funds have already been transferred to the state budget and will be used to support macrofinancial stability, in particular to finance priority expenditures," he said.

The total amount of funding received by Ukraine under the new EFF program is approximately USD 2.2 billion.

The Ministry of Finance notes that the new program helps attract large-scale external financial support to cover budgetary needs. According to joint estimates by the Ukrainian government and the IMF, the total external financing gap for 2026–2029 will amount to approximately USD 136.5 billion under the baseline scenario.

As the Ukrainian News agency previously reported, earlier in July, the IMF Executive Board completed the first review of the 48-month program under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for Ukraine, which allowed for the allocation of 503 million SDRs (about USD 690 million), bringing the total IMF disbursements under this agreement to approximately 1.6 billion SDRs (about USD 2.2 billion).

Ukraine has promised the IMF to begin revising utility rates in 2027.

According to the updated memorandum with the IMF, Ukraine may introduce a post-war reconstruction tax to replace the military levy.
