Defense Ministry codifies MUL.E unique all-wheel-drive electric motorcycle
The Ministry of Defense has standardized and approved for use in the Armed Forces Ukraine’s first all-wheel-drive electric motorcycle, the MUL.E. This is stated in a press release on the ministry’s website.
According to the Ministry of Defense, it was developed by a Ukrainian company that specializes in the manufacture of military equipment. The statement notes that the vehicle was designed to meet the military’s requirements for carrying out missions in the conditions of modern, high-intensity warfare.
“Engineers succeeded in implementing a number of important design solutions that are absent in traditional military motorcycles with internal combustion engines,” the ministry stated.
The MUL.E is designed to transport personnel with weapons, small cargo, and the wounded on roads with various surfaces and in off-road conditions.
What makes the MUL.E electric motorcycle unique?
During testing, the MUL.E confirmed its stated tactical and technical characteristics and its capabilities for carrying out military missions.
This motorcycle has the following features:
- a unique 2×2 all-wheel-drive design;
- improved survivability (2 independent motors);
- low visibility/silent operation;
- high-performance electric motors;
- quick to deploy and pack up;
- long autonomous operating time;
- a considerable operating range;
- high mine resistance due to low ground pressure;
- a high top speed.
In addition, the MUL.E is capable of towing a loaded trailer.
Generator bike: the MUL.E can supply electricity to a unit
The fully charged batteries of the MUL.E electric motorcycle provide enough power for nearly 100 km of travel. After a full discharge, the vehicle does not stop, unlike other electric vehicles.
An additional gasoline-powered generator is mounted on the MUL.E’s frame, which charges the standard batteries. It is removable, so it can be used as a power source for:
- charging the batteries of phones, communication devices, and FPV drones;
- providing power to a unit in the field.
Thanks to its wide off-road tires and all-wheel drive, the electric motorcycle can navigate challenging off-road terrain, including muddy ground, sand, deep snow, and swampy areas.
The vehicle exerts as little pressure on the surface as a soldier’s foot. As a result, it does not trigger most mines designed to destroy vehicles and armored equipment.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Defense previously approved the use of the “Zmiy Mini-Strike” reconnaissance and strike unmanned ground vehicle by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
