Servant of the People MP Poturaiev announces that he is resigning from his parliamentary seat
Mykyta Poturaiev, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction and the chairman of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, announced that he is resigning from his seat in the Verkhovna Rada. Poturaev made this announcement during a session of the Verkhovna Rada, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
“I have submitted a statement addressed to you regarding my resignation as a member of Parliament… and I would ask my colleagues to consider this just as urgently as they consider other decisions that forced me to make this decision,” he said, addressing Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Poturaiev also posted his statement on Facebook announcing the termination of his parliamentary powers.
Poturaiev did not explicitly state the reason for his decision, but made it clear that it was related to his disagreement with personnel policy.
This announcement came amid public and political opposition to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to dismiss Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of defense minister.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 14, the Verkhovna Rada accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. According to the Constitution, the resignation of the prime minister results in the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
Under the Constitution of Ukraine, the President submits the nominee for defense minister to parliament for approval. On July 15, it became known that Zelenskyy had decided not to nominate Fedorov for reappointment as defense minister. On July 15, Fedorov announced his resignation from the post of defense minister.
