Air Defense Forces destroyed 89% of enemy targets in June, but effectiveness against ballistics dropped to 40% - Defense Ministry
In June, during russian attacks, Ukraine destroyed 90% of enemy strike drones and 90% of cruise missiles, but the effectiveness of shooting down ballistic targets dropped to 40%.
This was announced by the Ministry of Defense on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to the military, in total, during June, russia launched almost 6,000 air targets over Ukraine, including drones and missiles of various types.
The Air Defense Forces managed to neutralize almost 5,300 of them, which provided an overall effectiveness indicator of 89%.
At the same time, the results of countering various threats differ significantly.
Thus, Ukrainian defenders demonstrated high results in the destruction of drones (Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas) and cruise missiles (Kalibr, Iskander-K, Kh-101, etc.) - 90%.
At the same time, the efficiency of intercepting ballistic and supersonic missiles of the Iskander-M, Kinzhal and 48N6DM types was only 40%.
The Ministry of Defense named the main reason for the decrease in ballistic missile downing rates, noting that intercepting such targets requires a significant number of RAS-3 missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
Due to the shortage of specific anti-missiles, Ukraine calls on partners to transfer the interceptors available in warehouses to protect critical infrastructure.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 6, russian forces launched 351 drones and 68 missiles into Ukraine, including 23 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles and 6 Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles.
Air Defense Forces managed to neutralize 326 drones and 37 missiles, but Ukrainian defenders did not shoot down a single ballistic or anti-ship missile.
After this attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that while Patriot missiles remain in allies' warehouses, "this encourages russia to 'defeat' residential buildings."
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stressed that russia is deliberately increasing the number of ballistic attacks, using missiles on a scale that has never been seen before, taking advantage of the acute shortage of Patriot missiles.
