Ukraine repatriates bodies of 522 victims from russia
Russia, the aggressor country, has handed over 522 bodies to the Ukrainian side, which, according to the russian side, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. It was reported in a statement by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on Thursday, June 18.
The bodies were recovered as a result of joint efforts by staff of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other agencies of Ukraine’s Security and Defense Sector.
Investigators from law enforcement agencies, in cooperation with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary examinations and identification of the repatriated bodies.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 16, the bodies of 528 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine as part of the latest repatriation efforts.
