Zelenskyy calls russian strike on Lavra during massive attack crime against Christian culture
On the night of June 15, russia carried out a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine, launching a total of 70 missiles and 611 drones. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, as well as Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Mykolaiv regions were under enemy attacks. The elimination of the consequences of the enemy flights is ongoing. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling on the international community to respond decisively.
"The russians launched more than 60 missiles at the capital alone this night. As of now, 28 people have been injured and four have been killed in the capital. My condolences to all their relatives and friends," he said.
One of the main targets of the occupiers' attack in Kyiv was a world cultural heritage site. As a result of the russian attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Assumption Cathedral, founded in the 11th century, caught fire.
"And this is one of the biggest Russian crimes against Christian culture today. The State Emergency Service has already extinguished the fire on the roof of the cathedral," Zelenskyy noted.
A tragic situation also developed in Kharkiv, where russian troops used the tactic of a second strike on civil services that arrived at the scene of the primary attack.
"In Kharkiv, the russians struck again at our rescuers who were extinguishing the fire at the site of the strike on the enterprise. As of now, it is known that, unfortunately, five people were killed. My condolences to all relatives and friends. Nine people were injured," the President emphasized.
Other regions also suffered destruction. In particular, in Dnipro, the territory of the railway station, a local college, and industrial enterprises came under enemy fire.
According to the President, with such a massive attack, russia clearly demonstrates to the world its intentions to continue the aggressive war. He emphasized that this requires an immediate and tough reaction from international partners, in particular the countries of the "Group of Seven", which are gathering for a summit these days.
"It is very important that the response of the Group of Seven countries be decisive and meaningful: more pressure on the aggressor, more assistance to Ukraine with air defense, primarily with anti-ballistic missiles. I thank everyone who helps us protect life," the head of state concluded.
Recall that during the attack on Kyiv, the roof of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra caught fire. According to Tkachenko, it was a direct hit.
Russia also attacked the Dovzhenko film studio in Kyiv and destroyed the largest costume collection in Ukraine.
