Government allows use of public address systems to announce daily minute of silence
The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized the use of public address systems for announcements regarding commemorations. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced this on her Telegram channel.
According to Svyrydenko, from now on, public address systems will be used daily at 9:00 a.m. to announce a nationwide moment of silence and during the all-Ukrainian “Light a Candle” campaign, which takes place annually on the fourth Saturday of November to honor the memory of the victims of the 1932–1933 Holodomor.
"We are shaping a new culture of remembrance. The daily minute of silence is an important part of it and a manifestation of our respect for the fallen defenders and civilian citizens," the Prime Minister noted.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in March 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law establishing a nationwide daily minute of silence at 9:00 a.m. for those who were killed as a result of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
The document establishes a daily minute of silence at 9:00 a.m. via the media and public alert systems to honor the memory of all those who have been killed. The law also mandates a minute of silence and the “Light a Candle” campaign on the fourth Saturday of November at 4:00 p.m.
The announcement of the nationwide moment of silence is made through the media, regardless of ownership, and through civil protection alert and information systems.
