Sweden hands over equipment for airfield maintenance to Ukraine - Defense Ministry

Sweden has provided Ukraine with specialized equipment for maintaining military airfields, which will help keep the airfields operational 24/7 in all weather conditions. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced this on Friday, May 8.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the quality of runway maintenance directly affects the safety and success of pilots’ combat missions.
The new equipment will allow:
- maintaining runways quickly and effectively;
- maintaining airfields in a state of readiness 24/7 in any weather;
- ensuring the safety of pilots during takeoffs and landings;
- ensuring uninterrupted combat operations of the air force.
In addition, Ukraine and Sweden are preparing to sign contracts for the supply of Gripen aircraft.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that the delivery of the first batch of new-model Swedish Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine will likely take at least three years.
