Tarakaniv Fort will not be restored after collapse due to lack of funds
A popular historical landmark in the Rivne Region — the Tarakaniv Fort — will remain in a state of disrepair without any renovation work being carried out. The Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported this in response to a request from ZAXID.NET.
Funding for emergency measures is currently not allocated. The site is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, yet no repairs have been carried out there during all the years it has been under the ministry’s ownership. The main reason for the refusal to restore the fort is a lack of funds, which are currently being directed toward military needs.
"At present, emergency repair work is not planned, as it requires significant funding, which is currently directed toward the priority restoration of facilities housing personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Main Communications Directorate explained.
Due to recent collapses, the structure has been officially declared unsafe for visitors. Warning signs regarding the emergency condition and access restrictions have already been installed on the grounds and at the entrance. The military urges citizens not to ignore the warnings, as being inside the fort poses a real threat to life.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russia recently destroyed a 19th-century architectural landmark in the Kharkiv Region, the Dontsi-Zakharzhevski estate.
