Record turnout recorded in parliamentary elections in Hungary
Hungary is holding parliamentary elections, which are characterized by high voter turnout. According to the National Electoral Office, as of 9:00 am, the turnout was 16.89%, which significantly exceeds the figure for 2022 (10.31%) at the same time. This is reported by the Telex publication.
The dynamics of the activity were noticeable from the beginning of voting: at 7:00 in the morning, 3.46% of voters came to the polling stations, which is almost twice as much as in the previous elections (1.82%).
Analysts note that the main activity is concentrated in Budapest, where queues were recorded at polling stations. At the same time, turnout is lower in small settlements that traditionally support Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party. Mathias Bodi, an analyst at Telex, noted that such results may be disappointing for the current Prime Minister's campaign headquarters.
The high level of citizen activity comes against the backdrop of a decline in the total number of voters - since 2022, the number of registered citizens has decreased by 166,000 due to the demographic situation. On the eve of the elections, an anti-government rally of several thousand people was also held in the capital.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging Ukrainians not to go to Hungary as election observers due to the risk of provocations.
