New diplomatic license plates for cars introduced in Ukraine - MFA

Ukraine has introduced new diplomatic license plates for cars. It was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"At the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an updated model of diplomatic license plates has been introduced in Ukraine, which corresponds to modern security and diplomatic realities," the statement said.

It is noted that since April 2026, the issuance of new diplomatic license plates in accordance with the updated model has begun, the first license plates have already been received by representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps.

According to the report, the new license plates are olive in color, a color traditionally associated with diplomacy, symbolizing peace and mutual understanding, and in today's conditions it is also the color of resilience - the color of the uniform of Ukrainian defenders.

It is noted that the decision is also of great security importance, in particular in the context of countering cases of misuse of diplomatic license plates. At the same time, this is part of a broader state policy to completely eliminate the presence of the aggressor state of russia in all areas where it has been preserved by the inertia of the past.

"Previously, the first diplomatic license plate belonged to the aggressor state of Russia. Today this has been corrected. We are putting things in order - systematically and without compromise, we are removing Russia from everywhere it has remained. Now the diplomats of our key partner receive the first issue. This is an honest reflection of reality without the inertia of the past and an indicator of real changes in international support for Ukraine," emphasized Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

The first three digits of the license plates are the code of the diplomatic mission, the next three digits are the individual car number.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April 2023, Ukraine banned the use of the letters Z and V on car license plates as symbols associated with russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
