Vance accuses "certain elements" in Ukrainian intelligence services of interfering in US and Hungarian elections
US Vice President JD Vance said that there were certain "elements" in Ukrainian intelligence services who tried to interfere in the electoral processes of the United States and Hungary. He announced this on Tuesday at a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest, Suspilne reports.
The American official noted that Washington is aware of such attempts to influence the course of the voting.
"The US is aware that there are elements in Ukrainian intelligence services who are trying to influence the course of the American elections, the Hungarian elections. This is simply what they do. This is part of the price that has to be paid for cooperation with certain elements of their system," Vance emphasized.
During his speech, the Vice President drew a parallel between the complexity of the US and Ukrainian government systems, noting that both countries have different groups of influence with opposing values.
"I try to remind myself that Ukraine, like the United States, is a very complex place. There are good people and there are bad people. There are people who try to interfere in the elections of other countries, and there are people who simply say: 'We believe in sovereignty for all, and that's what we support,'" he added. JD Vance also recalled that some representatives of the Ukrainian system campaigned together with representatives of the US Democratic Party in the weeks leading up to the November 2024 elections, which Donald Trump won.
Despite these statements, the Vice President assured that such actions do not affect his position or the policies of the Hungarian Prime Minister, and the main priority remains the end of hostilities. "So I'm aware of these things, but I don't think Viktor is letting them influence him. I'm not letting them influence him... And no matter what certain elements in the Ukrainian system think about me or anyone else, I truly believe that it's in the interests of Ukraine, in the interests of Europe and Hungary, in the interests of the United States, for this war to end as quickly as possible," JD Vance concluded.
Thus, he emphasized that the pursuit of peace is more important than political disputes about interference in electoral processes.
Recall that US Vice President JD Vance stated that Ukraine-russia relations are a source of constant frustration for the entire White House. According to him, the Trump administration really believed that a russian-Ukrainian war would be the easiest to resolve.
