Territorial recruitment and social support center's employee killed in Lviv turns out to be two-time Olympian
Oleh Avdieiev, an employee of the Lviv territorial recruitment and social support center, who was killed yesterday during a mobilization raid, turned out to be a two-time participant in the Winter Olympics. It was reported by the portal Sport.ua.
Who is Oleh Avdieiev?
The deceased senior lieutenant Oleh Avdieiev was 52 years old. He was born in April 1973 in Lviv and graduated from the Faculty of International Relations at the Ivan Franko University. Prior to joining the territorial recruitment and social support center, Avdieiev served as the head of a group of border control inspectors and was the deputy head of the Lviv mobile border guard post. From November 2025, he served as an officer of the mobilization department of the Halytsko-Frankivskyi regional territorial recruitment and social support center, and from January 2026, he served as an officer of the group for review and support of administrative offenses. He did not take part in hostilities.
Avdieiev used to be a professional athlete, participating in two Winter Olympics: in Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake City in 2002. At both Games, he and his partner Danylo Panchenko competed in the double sled and finished 11th.
How did the murder happen?
On April 2, at about 1:40 p.m., a joint police and territorial recruitment and social support center's patrol in Lviv stopped a car to check documents as part of mobilization activities. Inside the car were two brothers, customs officers, Andriy and Dmytro Trush. A conflict arose between the passengers and the inspectors, as a result of which the territorial recruitment and social support center's employee received a cut wound and died during resuscitation.
The parties describe the details of the conflict in different ways, according to the territorial recruitment and social support center, one of the brothers tried to escape, while the other tried to detain the territorial recruitment and social support center's employee. The other party claims that the territorial recruitment and social support center exceeded its authority and acted in self-defense. No body camera video has been released to establish the circumstances of the incident more precisely. Moreover, it is not known whether the inspectors were wearing body cameras at all, as required by law.
