India has approved the purchase of arms worth INR 2.38 trillion (more than USD 25 billion), including russian S-400 air defense missile systems.

It was reported by Bloomberg, citing the Defense Ministry.

According to the ministry, the acquisition includes five more russian S-400 systems worth about USD 6.1 billion.

"The S-400 system will counter enemy long-range air vectors targeting vital areas," the ministry said in a statement.

India already operates three S-400 systems, which were used during the four-day conflict with Pakistan last May. Two more systems are expected in the coming months.

"Despite a drop, Russia continues to be India’s biggest supplier of military hardware accounting for over a third of weapons purchases, according to a 2025 report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, which tracks global arms sales," the report said.
