Hungary to block 20th EU sanctions package against russia tomorrow - Szijjártó

Hungary will block the adoption of the 20th package of EU sanctions against the aggressor country of russia until Ukraine resumes oil transit to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced this on his X-account on Sunday, February 22.

Szijjártó noted that a vote on the approval of the 20th package of sanctions against russia will take place on February 23. According to him, Hungary will block this decision.

"Tomorrow at the Foreign Affairs Council, the EU intends to adopt the 20th package of sanctions. Hungary will block it. Until Ukraine resumes oil transit to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline, we will not allow decisions important for Kyiv to move forward," the Hungarian Foreign Minister stressed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 20, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed that Budapest had blocked the allocation of a EUR 90 billion loan by the European Union to Ukraine.

On February 19, the head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's administration, Gergely Guiyás, said that Hungary was considering the possibility of completely stopping electricity and gas exports to Ukraine in response to the halt in the transit of russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline.

On February 18, Hungary announced the suspension of diesel fuel exports to Ukraine due to the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline.
