Moscow calls attempted assassination of General Alekseev "Ukraine's attempt to disrupt peace talks"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called the attempted assassination of the Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the russian Armed Forces, General Vladimir Alekseev, an attempt to disrupt peace talks.

Lavrov made the statement after talks with OSCE Chairman Ignazio Cassis, russian media quoted him as saying.

Lavrov called the attempted assassination of General Alekseev a "terrorist act" allegedly organized by Ukraine to disrupt the negotiation process. It should be noted that at the time of publication of the news, the russian side has not provided any evidence of Ukraine's involvement in the attempted assassination of the general.

Lavrov added that there will be no predictions about the future of the negotiation process. The decision on this issue will be made by the russian leadership.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, earlier today, on February 6, an unknown shooter shot at General Alekseev in moscow. The russians claim that the assassination attempt took place in a multi-storey residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway. Alekseev was hospitalized with several gunshot wounds.

Alekseev is a former officer of the russian Federal Security Service. He was one of the key figures in the events of 2014 in the east of Ukraine. Terrorist and international criminal Igor Girkin claimed that since 2014, Alekseev had been coordinating the actions of the private military company Wagner in Ukraine.

As a reminder, in December 2025, General Fanil Sarvarov, Chief of Operational Training of the General Staff of the russian Armed Forces, died in moscow. He was the victim of a car bombing.
