Cabinet of Ministers creates working group to develop plan for Ukraine's accession to Schengen Agreement

The Cabinet of Ministers has set up an interdepartmental working group to develop an action plan for Ukraine's accession to the Schengen Agreement (an agreement on the abolition of passport customs control between the countries of the European Union). The representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk has announced this on Telegram, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Melnychuk also said that an interagency working group on coordination of measures in the field of Schengen governance has been established as a temporary advisory body of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The main tasks of the interagency working group are: to help ensure coordination of actions of ministries and other central executive authorities in the field of Schengen governance; to ensure the organization of the screening of Schengen legislation (assessment of compliance of Ukrainian legislation with Schengen legislation), preparation of the draft National Schengen Strategy, development of a draft action plan for Ukraine's accession to the Schengen Agreement.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is counting on a specific date of joining the European Union in 2027 and on the support of partners in this position.
