Ultimatums do not work - Zelenskyy on disagreements with US on peace agreement
Ukraine and the US have different views on some issues regarding the peace agreement. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a joint briefing with Czech President Petr Pavel on Friday, January 16.
Zelenskyy stressed that now the initiative in the negotiations belongs to Ukraine, since it is faster than russia in this.
"I think we worked very well with the American side. We are simply not on the same side on some issues. This is understandable, I am simply defending the interests of my own state. And ultimatums, in my opinion, are not a working model in democratic relations between countries," the President of Ukraine emphasized.
According to him, Ukraine must clearly know that the war will not resume again in a few months or after the end of President Trump's presidential term. Security guarantees must be in place, "so that there is faith, first of all, of the Ukrainian people, and not of any world leader," the head of state said. In his opinion, Ukrainians are currently better versed in security guarantees than any defense minister, as they live in conditions of war and russian shelling.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 14, US President Donald Trump said that it was Ukraine, not russia, that was delaying the conclusion of a potential peace agreement.
