Backup traction activated in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions due to attacks on power system

Due to large-scale power outages caused by another shelling of Ukrainian infrastructure by the russian federation, Ukrzaliznytsia was forced to switch all trains in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions to backup thermal traction. The company reported this on its official Telegram channel on the evening of December 7.

Currently, railway workers are responding quickly to calls, ensuring the operation of signaling and communication equipment using autonomous power sources.

Railway stations in the region continue to function thanks to powerful generators. In the "points of invincibility" mode, passengers are provided with access to uninterrupted communication via Starlink, the opportunity to charge mobile devices and get hot drinks. Despite the energy difficulties, train traffic does not stop, and they are trying to minimize departure delays. In particular, trains No. 734 Kyiv - Dnipro, No. 37 Zaporizhzhia - Kyiv, No. 119 Dnipro - Kholm and No. 79 Dnipro - Lviv are already running under reserve locomotives.

It is separately noted that the movement of suburban trains of the Dnipro City Express system on Thursday will also be ensured by diesel traction. The company continues to monitor the situation and assures that rail traffic in the affected regions will remain stable.
