Trump casts doubt on strike on putin's residence and rejects russian version

US President Donald Trump said he does not believe that Ukraine struck the residence of russian president vladimir putin.

The US President said this on Sunday during a conversation with journalists on board the presidential plane.

According to the head of the White House, the American side has no confirmation that the residence of the Kremlin leader was the object of the attack. He admitted that "something happened nearby", but stressed that this does not mean a strike on the residence itself.

"I do not believe that this strike took place," Donald Trump said, returning to Washington from Florida.

Trump also explained his previous reaction, when, according to him, he initially believed the statements of the russian side. Last Monday, he said he learned of the alleged attack from vladimir putin during a phone call and was "very angry."

The US President later clarified that at that time the facts had not yet been verified. "I mean, that's the first time I heard it. He (putin) said his house was attacked. We don't believe that happened - after we were able to verify (russian claims - ed.)," Trump said.

On January 1, The Wall Street Journal reported that US national security officials had denied russia's claims that Ukrainian drones had allegedly attacked putin's residence.

The Ukrainian side had previously categorically denied carrying out any attack and stated that these accusations were part of a russian disinformation campaign aimed at worsening relations between Kyiv and Washington.

As a reminder, on December 29, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the aggressor country of russia is preparing the ground for strikes on the government quarters of Kyiv, for which it accused Ukraine of an alleged drone attack on the residence of dictator vladimir putin.
