Critical enterprises start installing electronic warfare systems to protect against air attacks - Shmyhal
Critical infrastructure enterprises have begun to install electronic warfare (EW) equipment to protect their facilities from air attacks by the army of the aggressor country, the russian federation.
Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on Monday, December 29.
According to him, this initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Defense in pursuance of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's order. Electronic warfare systems are already working to protect critical infrastructure operators.
Shmyhal said that critical enterprises can use their own or borrowed funds to purchase electronic warfare systems. At the same time, the equipment cannot be moved to another region or used to protect other facilities.
He added that the Ministry of Defense has developed and approved an action plan for the project. The algorithm consists of the following steps:
- An enterprise applies to the Ministry of Defense to strengthen the air defense cover of a critical infrastructure facility.
- The Ministry of Defense conducts threat modeling and provides several options for equipment to cover the facility.
- After that, the enterprise receives the right to buy or import such equipment, and then install it.
- The enterprise cannot independently use powerful electronic warfare equipment, so it concludes an agreement on free operation with a military unit.
- The military unit connects these electronic warfare equipment to the national air defense system and uses them to cover the critical infrastructure facility.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in July this year, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine allowed manufacturers of electronic warfare systems to include interest on loans in the cost of production.
We also wrote that the government allowed to increase the order price by 20% for the procurement of electronic warfare equipment and unmanned systems, but only if the manufacturer's profit does not exceed 25%.
