Clearing of Kupyansk continues: occupiers remain in small pockets of city
The clearing of Kupyansk from the russian military may take several more weeks. There are still small "pockets" in the city where the enemies are hiding.
This was reported on the air of Suspilne and the telethon by Viktor Trehubov, the head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Group.
According to him, the process is going slowly due to the presence of a civilian population and the peculiarities of fighting in urban conditions, but the situation in Kupyansk is assessed positively.
"The russians remained in several small pockets in the city. I don't know, it may take another two weeks to clear these pockets, but given that the russians are not succeeding, there are no prospects for unblocking, although there were several attempts, everything is quite clear here," Trehubov said.
He added that the occupiers are surrounded in the city and number only a few dozen people.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 12, the DeepState analytical project stated that the Ukrainian military had cleared the northwestern part of Kupyansk. Control over two settlements north of the city was also regained. This information was later confirmed by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Also on December 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the area of the "surrounded" and "captured" Kupyansk. He met with the military and recorded a video near the stele at the entrance to the city.
As stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, on December 17, as a result of the operation, the Ukrainian military managed to regain control over almost 90% of the territory of Kupyansk.
