Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever comments on new EU decision to help Ukraine

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever called the EU's decision to jointly borrow EUR 90 billion for Ukraine a powerful political signal and an investment in Europe's security. This is reported by European Pravda.

He stressed that helping Ukraine is not charity, but a strategic investment in own security.

"There was never any dispute about whether we would help. The only question was how exactly we should help," he noted.

Wever explained that if Europe left Brussels divided, it would be a disaster not only for Ukraine, but also for the EU itself, which would lose its geopolitical significance.

"It would be a complete disaster and a signal to the world that Europe is no longer able to do anything," the Prime Minister said.

He emphasized that the adopted decision provides Kyiv with urgent, predictable and reliable financing for the next two years, adding that the frozen assets of the russian federation will remain "globalized" and will be used to compensate for war losses.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union officially approved a large-scale package of financial support for Ukraine worth EUR 90 billion.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the European Council for approving the financial instrument worth EUR 90 billion.
