US plans to allocate USD 800 million to Ukraine in 2026-2027

The US has released the final text of the defense bill, which provides for record spending on national security and further support for Ukraine.

As reported by Reuters, Fox News and AOL, the document allocates USD 901 billion for defense in 2026 – USD 8 billion more than President Donald Trump requested. The bill also maintains funding for the Ukraine Security Support Initiative: "USD 400 million each year in fiscal years 2026 and 2027," Fox News writes.

Congress wants to receive more frequent reports on allies' contributions to aid Ukraine, and the head of the Pentagon must inform the House of Representatives and the Senate of any suspension of intelligence transfers to Kyiv.

A vote on the document is expected in the coming days. House Speaker Mike Johnson said the bill would give the US military an edge and align with Trump's agenda of "ending the Pentagon's awakening ideology."

The bill also increases military pay by 4%, repeals the old 1991 and 2002 AUMFs, and cuts programs Trump has criticized, including those related to diversity and inclusion.

Since Trump's return, the US has cut direct spending on Ukraine, and European partners are now funding US weapons for Kyiv through the PURL mechanism. Trump recently said the US is "no longer spending money on aid to Ukraine" because NATO countries are paying.

Trump is disappointed with Zelenskyy for not having "read" the US peace plan.
