Trump says there is no November 27 deadline to reach peace deal on war in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has said he has no deadline for a peace deal in the russia-Ukraine war, despite earlier saying it would be "appropriate" to reach agreement on a proposed plan by November 27, when the US celebrates Thanksgiving.
He said this to journalists on board Air Force One.
So, when asked by a journalist if the special representative Steve Witkoff is going to moscow for talks next week, does this mean that the deadline of November 27, which was discussed earlier, is no longer relevant, Trump said that there is no deadline.
"We're going to see what happens. They set up a date and the date is going to be sometime in the very near future… I don't have a deadline. You know what the deadline for me is? When it's over," he said.
In addition, the Ukrainian President's team tried to arrange a meeting with the American President as soon as possible. In Trump's own words, "we have to get a deal done first."
"He would like to come, but I think we should get a deal done first. We're having good talks. We started with Russia. We're having some talks with Russia. Ukraine is doing well. I think they're pretty happy about it. I'd like to see it end. And we won't know for a little while, but we're making progress," the US President said.
Last week, Trump said that next Thursday, when the United States celebrates Thanksgiving, would be "appropriate" for Ukraine to reach an agreement on a proposed peace deal to end the war. He noted: "I've had a lot of deadlines, but if things are working well, you tend to extend the deadlines."
Meanwhile, Trump said that he sent his special envoy Steve Witkoff to moscow to negotiate a "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine. At the same time, US Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll will travel to Ukraine
