Rada dismisses Hrynchuk

The Verkhovna Rada dismissed Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk amid a corruption scandal in the energy sector. 315 MPs voted for the relevant resolution No. 14212, with a minimum of 226, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Hrynchuk was absent from the Verkhovna Rada during the vote.

40-year-old Hrynchuk has held the position of Energy Minister in the government of Yulia Svyrydenko since July 17, before that she had been the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources since September 2024.

Since September 2023, she has held the position of Deputy Minister of Energy.

Since July 29, 2022, Hrynchuk has been Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources for European Integration.

In 2016-2019, Hrynchuk held the position of Director of the Department for Climate Change and Ozone Layer Preservation at the Ministry of Nature and Natural Resources.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) announced that they were conducting a large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector. On November 10, NABU detectives came to search the homes of businessman and co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio Tymur Mindich, Minister of Justice Herman Halushchenko, and the Energoatom company.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, amid the energy corruption scandal, said that the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Energy should be dismissed, and asked the Prime Minister to immediately submit their applications.

After that, on November 12, Svyrydenko submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a motion to dismiss the Minister of Justice Herman Halushchenko (in the government of Denys Shmyhal in April 2021-July 2025 he held the position of Minister of Energy) and the Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.
