The United Kingdom is preparing to increase pressure on the aggressor country russia by banning the use of British maritime services for the export of russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to third countries.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has stated this, her words are cited by The Independent.

According to her, the UK is preparing a decision that will close russian LNG exports to British maritime services, including ship insurance. It should be noted that London controls about 90% of the marine insurance market.

The ban will be introduced in 2026 along with other European countries. Imports of russian LNG to the country were banned back in 2023.

Cooper added that her country will provide Ukraine with GBP 13 million. The money will be used to rebuild Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has been severely damaged by russia's recent massive strikes.

"Putin is trying to plunge Ukraine into darkness and the cold as winter approaches. These cowardly strikes are not only an attack on Ukraine’s security, but a threat to the UK’s economic security, stability and growth," Cooper said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in February this year, Reuters wrote that two of russia's largest LNG production facilities halted operations due to US sanctions.

As a reminder, at the end of October 2024, it became known that the russian Arctic LNG 2 project halted commercial gas liquefaction due to Western sanctions.
