Mortgage lending in August down 13% to UAH 1.4 billion
In August, Ukrainian banks issued 789 mortgage loans for a total amount of UAH 1.4 billion, which is 12.5% less than in July (UAH 1.6 billion).
This is evidenced by the data of the monthly survey of banks on mortgage lending, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Briefly about the results of the survey:
- 480 loans for the amount of UAH 889.8 million were provided in the primary real estate market, of which 136 for the amount of UAH 267.3 million were provided as collateral for property rights to future real estate;
- 309 loans for UAH 543.6 million were provided in the secondary real estate market;
- the average weighted effective rate was 8.13% per annum in the primary market and 8.99% in the secondary market;
- the quality of the mortgage portfolio is good: the share of non-performing loans decreased to 12%.
In terms of regions, the largest number of mortgage loans in August was issued:
- in the Kyiv Region (249 contracts for a total amount of UAH 457.2 million, or 31.9% of the total);
- in the city of Kyiv (125 contracts for UAH 280.7 million);
- in the Lviv Region (61 contracts for UAH 124.5 million);
- in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region (56 contracts for UAH 93.2 million);
- in the Vinnytsia Region (48 contracts for UAH 75.7 million).
During the survey, 39 banks responded with a share of over 95% of the total gross mortgage portfolio, of which 13 banks reported issuing new mortgage loans.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Financial Stability Board approved the Strategy for the Development of Mortgage Lending, aimed at developing market mechanisms in this market segment in order to increase housing affordability.
