New Japanese PM chooses 'Coalition of the Willing' as her first international event - Starmer

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi joined the meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing" yesterday, October 24.

According to the British Prime Minister, Takaichi joined the meeting as part of a "Coalition of the Willing," which he said was her first international event.

"The fact she chose this forum... and was so clear and powerful in her words I think emphasises that that coalition and the ability to bring together so many countries here is very important," he added.

On October 21, a woman was elected prime minister for the first time in Japan - the new leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Sanae Takaichi. She received a majority of votes in the upper and lower houses of parliament.

On October 24, Takaichi thanked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for congratulating her on her appointment. She expressed her "deepest respect" for Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people and expressed confidence in strengthening the partnership between the countries.
