Demolition of part of White House to build ballroom designed by Trump begins in US
US President Donald Trump has announced the start of construction of a new ballroom on the White House grounds. To implement this project, they have already started demolishing part of the eastern wing of the residence.
According to NBC News, the information was first confirmed by administration officials, and later Trump himself wrote on social media: "I am pleased to announce that construction has begun on a new large and beautiful ballroom. The east wing, which is separate from the main building, will be completely modernized."
The President noted that the idea of creating a ballroom had existed for more than 150 years, but he was the one who realized it - "at no cost to American taxpayers." According to him, the financing is provided by private investors and large companies.
Trump also clarified that the future hall will accommodate up to 900 guests and will be a venue for gala receptions and state visits. The cost of the project has increased from the initial USD 200 million to about USD 250 million.
Journalists note that this could be the largest reconstruction of the White House since the 1940s, after the renovations carried out by Presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman.
Recall that Trump complained to Zelenskyy that he did not receive the Nobel Prize and offered to "give up Donbas for peace."
