UK delivers hundreds of LMM missiles to Ukraine ahead of schedule to protect its skies
The UK has delivered hundreds of air defense missiles to Ukraine ahead of schedule. The delivery, which was scheduled for only 5 months later, took place ahead of schedule.
This is stated in a release posted on the official portal of the UK government.
The British Ministry of Defense has announced the early delivery of hundreds of air defense missiles to Ukraine.
The missiles are manufactured at a plant in Belfast (Northern Ireland) and are part of the British military assistance program for Ukraine. These are lightweight multi-purpose missiles LMM (Martlet), which have been used since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion to destroy
- enemy drones,
- helicopters,
- light armored vehicles.
The LMM is a British-made precision-guided missile that is 1.3 meters long, weighs only 13 kilograms and has a range of up to 8 kilometers. It is equipped with laser and infrared guidance systems, and its 3-kilogram fragmentation warhead with a non-contact fuze makes it effective against air and ground targets.
The missiles can be launched from various platforms:
- ground launchers (MANPADS, Stormer HVM or RapidRanger air defense systems);
- helicopters and ships.
It is this versatility that makes LMM one of the key components of the modern air defense system of Ukraine.
