Seaports handle more than 134 TEUs of containerized cargo in 8 months - highest figure since beginning of full-scale war
For 8 months of operation (January-August) in 2025, Ukrainian seaports handled 134,191 TEUs of containerized cargo, which is 3.3% more than the annual figure in 2024 and the highest figure since the beginning of the full-scale war.
This is stated in a report by the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
The report says that the structure of transportation for 8 months is as follows: exports - 66,892 TEUs, imports - 63,042 TEUs, transit - 4,257 TEUs.
TEU is a conventional unit of capacity based on the volume of a 20-foot container.
This is where it gets its name from - twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).
"Despite the war, shelling and numerous challenges of global logistics, Ukrainian seaports continue to demonstrate resilience and steady growth," the Association said in a statement.
The Association added that such results are an important signal to business that Ukrainian ports remain reliable even in crisis conditions and are able to handle export and import cargo.
The Association Chairman Viktor Berestenko on his Facebook page wrote that more than 60% of value-added cargo and finished products continue to go through the Baltic States, but there is also good news - for 8 months of 2025, our ports have already handled 134,191 TEUs of containerized cargo, which is more than for the whole of 2024 (129,902 TEUs).
"The goal is 200,000 TEUs. But we still have to work to reach 1,048,691 in 2021," Berestenko added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in mid-July 2025, the Chornomorsk seaport received a linear container ship for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country russia.
