Zelenskyy instructs Umerov to coordinate procurement of additional air defense systems to protect energy facilities
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), to coordinate the procurement of additional air defense systems (ADS) to protect energy facilities. Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, speaking about the meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"I instructed NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov to coordinate government officials, regional administrations, and energy companies to purchase additional short- and medium-range air defense systems, as well as to increase funding for drone manufacturers. The priority is to shoot down Shaheds. Report on supplies weekly. We separately discussed the protection of networks and energy facilities in frontline and border communities, and backup support," he said.
The Staff also heard reports on the areas of extraction, supply of energy resources, and electricity generation.
"The Naftogaz and Ukrenergo teams have achieved important results. Thank you. Further measures have been approved to purchase the necessary volumes of gas," the President noted.
Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine is accelerating the supply of additional air defense systems for missile defense, and he is counting on the activity of Ukrainian diplomats in relevant contacts with partners.
The President also reported that a technological headquarters is being prepared with the participation of manufacturers of Ukrainian missiles, key types of drones, and air defense tools.
"We will increase the production of our weapons. The quality of Ukrainian deep strikes should increase significantly," he noted.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Energy reported that russia attacked energy and gas transportation infrastructure in six regions of Ukraine on the night of August 27, and the facilities were damaged.
Zelenskyy previously stated that russia is trying to disrupt Ukraine's preparations for winter through attacks on energy.
