Sanctions reduce EBITDA of largest shipping company in russia by 55%

The largest russian shipping company, Sovcomflot, is experiencing a rapid deterioration in its financial situation. The carrier has lost 50% of its profit from the operation of vessels and almost 40% of its revenue.

The russian publication The Moscow Times reported this with reference to Sovcomflot's reporting data.

According to published data, in the first six months of 2025, Sovcomflot's profit from the operation of vessels fell by half to USD 306 million.

The total amount of money received from the company's activities decreased by 39% to USD 618 million. And the indicator of earnings before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell by 55% to USD 263 million.

The publication writes that the deterioration in the financial situation of the largest shipping company in russia is caused by sanctions from the United States and the European Union. The restrictions affected some tankers, which led to their downtime, reduced operational capabilities, and lower freight rates.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, revenues from the russian oil and gas industry fell by 18.5% in the first half of 2025 due to lower energy prices and Western sanctions.

In July, we wrote that due to the suspension of transit through Ukraine, russian gas companies are forced to reduce gas production and burn "blue fuel" in flares.
