Foreign Ministry responds to Nicaragua's statements about support for russian occupation

If the reports about the recognition of the territories occupied by russia by the leadership of the Republic of Nicaragua are confirmed, Ukraine will reserve the right to respond, which will be commensurate with the unprecedented level of unfriendly actions. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The department called on the Nicaraguan authorities to immediately officially refute the media reports about the approval of the actions of the aggressor country, if they do not correspond to reality. Ukraine will regard the absence of refutations as confirmation of the truthfulness of these statements.

"If this information is confirmed, Ukraine will regard such actions as a gross violation of international law, including the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter, resolutions of the UN General Assembly and international obligations of Nicaragua, and will reserve the right to respond, which will be commensurate with the unprecedented level of unfriendly actions," the statement said.

Temporarily occupied Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, as well as the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions remain integral parts of the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, all statements and "referendums" of the occupiers, as well as "recognition" of their actions, are legally null and void and do not create any legal consequences. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that in 2020 Ukraine had already imposed sectoral sanctions against Nicaragua due to the opening of an honorary consulate in occupied Simferopol.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 30, Nicaragua recognized the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine – the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions - as belonging to the aggressor country, russia.

Ukraine will also initiate the inclusion of the Ambassadors of the Republic of Burundi Joseph Nkurunziza, the Republic of Guinea Nyankoy Haba and the Republic of Chad Adam Beshir Mahamoud in russia on the sanctions lists for an illegal visit to the temporarily occupied Crimea.
