Usyk is the absolute world champion again: Ukrainian knocked out Dubois
Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois early in a rematch that took place on July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London. Ukrainian News Agency reports this.
The Ukrainian knocked out his opponent in the fifth round and became the absolute world heavyweight champion. The WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF belts were at stake - the latter belonged to the Briton.
The fight became the main event of the boxing evening in the British capital. More than 80,000 spectators were present at the Wembley stands.
"38 is just the beginning!" Usyk said after the fight, hinting at his age.
This is already Usyk's second fight against Dubois. In August 2023, the Ukrainian defeated his opponent by technical knockout in the ninth round, but the result of the fight caused controversy due to a controversial episode with a blow below the belt.
This time, Usyk left no chance for his opponent and effectively ended the fight in the middle of the fifth round. The Ukrainian needed only 15 minutes of clean time to win.
Previously, the Ukrainian held the title of absolute world champion in heavyweight (up to 90.7 kg). Now he has become the absolute heavyweight champion, repeating the historic achievement of Evander Holyfield.
