Orbán says Ukraine "killing ethnic Hungarians" during mobilization efforts

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has announced the killing of ethnic Hungarians during mobilization efforts in Ukraine and called on the European Union to respond. He said this in the Pikk Extra program, published on the Magyar Nemzet YouTube channel.

Orbán said about the mobilization of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine amid rumors that a Zakarpattia resident with Ukrainian and Hungarian citizenship, József Šebestien, killed allegedly as a result of beatings by the territorial recruitment and social support center.

"You cannot make speeches about Ukraine's suitability for membership in the European Union and the next day bury people who are being beaten to death during forced conscription," Orbán said.

He also noted that Hungary is monitoring information about cases of ethnic Hungarians being forcibly recruited into the army, knows how many people were killed and how many were orphaned, and can provide assistance to the families of the deceased.

Orbán stressed that since we are talking about citizens of Hungary, which is a member of the EU, "we are knocking on the door of Brussels" and demanding that measures be taken against the practice of forced conscription in Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ukrainian Ambassador was summoned to the Hungarian Foreign Ministry over the death of a Zakarpattia Hungarian who was detained by the territorial recruitment and social support center.

On June 27, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that a referendum had been held in the country on Ukraine's membership in the EU. According to him, Hungarians voted against it, which is why Budapest stopped Kyiv's entry into the bloc.
